It can’t be the only alternative either, or it would be defeating its own purpose, because although bitcoin is decentralized, it can be centralized. Therefore, one of the most important lessons to learn from this bitcoin 101 section, is that the concept of bitcoin and decentralized cryptocurrency, is probably more valuable than bitcoin itself. The Business Blockchain charts new territory in advancing our understanding of the blockchain by unpacking its elements like no other before. William Mougayar anticipates a future that consists of thousands, if not millions of blockchains that will enable not only frictionless value exchange, but also a new flow of value, redefining roles, relationships, power and governance. In this book, Mougayar makes two other strategic assertions. First, the blockchain has polymorphic characteristics; its application will result in a multiplicity of effects. Second, we shouldn’t ask ourselves what problems the blockchain solves, because that gives us a narrow view on its potential. Rather, we should imagine new opportunities, and tackle even more ambitious problems that cross organizational, regulatory and mental boundaries. Drawing on 34 years of technology industry experience as an executive, analyst, consultant, entrepreneur, startup mentor, author, blogger, educator, thought leader and investor, William Mougayar describes a future that is influenced by fundamental shifts brought by blockchain technology as the catalyst for change. William Mougayar has been described as the most sophisticated blockchain business thinker. The blockchain is a decentralized database that allows individuals to trade directly without the need for a third-party intermediary. Bitcoin is free-market money that runs on the internet, and it isn't controlled by a political entity or central bank. It's easy to see bitcoin and the blockchain as logical extensions of the internet, with the potential to shift power from governments to individuals. It's also not clear how a fully decentralized money and public-ledger system are going to be implemented and brought to bear on everyday life. Reason's Nick Gillespie sat down with Caitlin Long, one of Inc. magazine's "10 business leaders changing the world through tech," a former managing director at Morgan Stanley, and the current president of Symbiont, which is bringing blockchain technology to Wall Street. Today I'll speak briefly about some of the most interesting projects on the Ethereum blockchain. Follow us at Steem.it: https://steemit.com/@wildpromotion/ Follow us at Twitter: https://twitter.com/WildPromotion ****************** We rely 100% on donations, so if you like our project please donate, any amount is appreciated! Bitcoin: 1M4Ker6WhzwFwfxGeDCKii5MvjJ3aKSpS3 Ethereum: 0x9c4ce40c433fb876cc239b44ba43265b1afdf837 Dash: XwtFQ93CGXehZz7KS6YxjpLu4jr4adL1EL Monero: bcaa342dd87761096074a69772b90d8a1cbd04c83fbcc40745b7b1dd56a74f5c Lisk: 5110663030318029130L Steem: f111279b5d1ab7b9 ****************** Today I'll speak briefly about some of the most interesting projects on the Ethereum blockchain. If you check out coinmarketcap.com you will see that out of all of the Ethereum projects, Golem is the one with the biggest market cap of almost 200 million dollars. Golem is presented as a global, decentralized world supercomputer which anyone can be a part of. You basically rent out your computer to do cool stuff for other people, from rendering, to research, to running websites, in a completely decentralized and inexpensive way. Getting paid to rent your computer, while not even using it, is pretty cool ha?! Golem is currently running an alpha test and it's unclear when the beta version will be online. The second one on the list is Augur, an application that's presented as the future of forecasting. Augur is a prediction market platform that rewards users for correctly predicting future events. The main idea is to make more accurate predictions by large groups of people, rather than a small team of experts. Correct predictions are rewarded by the network, while incorrect reporting is penalised - this incentivises truthful reporting. Augur's crowdsale raised more than 2,000 BTC and 100,000 Ether on its first day. It ran from the 17th of August 2015 until the 5th of September 2015. The platform is currently in beta phase. The third project on coinmarketcap.com by value today is Gnosis which recently collected 330 million dollars for their initial coin offering in 10 minutes, which is insane! So if you connected to participate in ICO 11 minutes after the ICO started you were already late! Gnosis is similar to Augur, as it's also a prediction market where you get rewarded for correctly predicting future events. Gnosis roadmap says we can expect Gnosis alpha online at the first quarter of 2018. The next one I would like to mention is First Blood. First Blood is a decentralized app created for electronic sports (eSports) enthusiasts. The platform allows players to test their skills against other players in popular eSports games like League of Legends, Dota 2, and CounterStrike, without relying on middlemen that not only charge overhead fees but can also be fallible in reporting match results. As such, First Blood relies on the decentralized nature of Ethereum to make the eSports industry more transparent and efficient. Akasha is the next project on the Ethereum blockchain that I would like to discuss. A “Next-Generation Social Media Network” is how the founders present Akasha to the world. As far as I know it will be like a decentralized blogging network on a blockchain which would guarantee freedom of speech and will be a response to all censorships that users experience today on some of the other centralized blogging networks. I want to apologize for not speaking in more detail about each project. Because they are so special, they deserve to receive much more time. However, I don't want this video to be too long, so I promise I will speak about each of the projects in more detail in future videos.

Blockchain and Cryptocurrency 101 2 What is a smart contract If you feel helped, please donate to my bitcoin: 3GtaocE8UUd9kFUn5fyXLGYuRtF9CSBhjf Bitcoin cannot be a viable, scalable alternative if it does not integrate. Bitcoin effectively opened the flood-gates through which a myriad of decentralized coins followed. Now there are many more alternatives to traditional currency, government and central bank control over the economy, and to the system that failed before. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will help build a more robust system in which traditional currency holders will have a choice to hedge, in which people will no longer have to stack gold or other precious materials in their houses or in a vault to protect the value of what they earned. However, bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are not yet ready to replace traditional currency, and might never be. That is another important lesson to learn from this bitcoin 101 section. A digital currency is, as you might have guessed, a currency that is housed entirely online. No paper, no coins, no debit cards and, most importantly, no banks. Bitcoins can be used by anyone, anywhere - and you can even ‘mine them’ yourself - if you’ve got a computer big enough. Bitcoins don’t just represent a way to make a quick buck on the Internet though, they are becoming more and more commonplace in everyday life - and challenging people, companies and governments to reevaluate the way they trade money. Originally worth less than one tenth of a cent, a single Bitcoin is now worth over $1,000. The volatility of the price of Bitcoins means they are widely open to speculation - in English, their value fluctuates on a daily, hourly, or even minute-by-minute basis. To help combat this, only a certain amount can be generated per hour. Bitcoin was created in 2009 by an anonymous online writer under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. He described the Bitcoin as a “peer to peer electronic cash system” and that is pretty much what it is. Although not the first crypto-currency ever created Bitcoin is probably the most widely used. The more computer savvy can mine for their own Bitcoins by cracking a computer algorithm. Each cracked code is worth one Bitcoin. Simple. Well, not quite. Although the first Bitcoin algorithms were easy to crack, eight years later they’re far more difficult and require the most sophisticated computers. People now have whole server rooms dedicated to mining Bitcoins, and have formed syndicates to help pool their computers’ processing power together. This increasing difficulty helps to limit the amount of Bitcoins that are created, thus regulating their value. But how can a digital coin that doesn’t physically exist be worth anything, let alone thousands of pounds? Matthew Tyler, CEO and founder of cyber-security firm Blackfoot, explains there's nothing inherently valuable about inanimate objects such as a coin or paper notes. He says: “If you think about it a £20 note has no intrinsic value - it’s not worth £20 pounds. It doesn’t cost £20 pounds to make it, but it is worth £20 because in the UK we have confidence in this piece of paper.” barriers they put in place. But it’s not all as simple as that. Digital and crypto currencies still need some kind of guarantee to stop fraud and theft. Just as new £5 notes have over 20 security features to prevent counterfeiting, cryptocurrencies must also include safeguards to ensure they are secure. Enter blockchain. A blockchain is a digital ledger - imagine a big, dusty book of transactions zapped into the 21st century and onto the internet and you’ve got blockchain. It’s a public record of all of the transactions that take place in a given network. Once a transaction is added to a blockchain it can’t be edited or deleted.big part in it. Matt Tyler from Blackfoot recently gave a talk at the Lush Summit, on the potential of Bitcoin and blockchain

LockChain, a company developing a technology and a marketplace for blockchain-powered booking of hotels and private property has announced in its official blog that it secured almost 100,000 hotels around the world reaching a strategic partnership with a number of companies in the accommodation sector.. This marks the first instance of decentralized technologies entering the hotel industry, which is currently estimated at around $500 billion.. The 0% commission marketplace offered by LockChain uses blockchain technology to remove intermediaries from the booking process, thus making a hotel stay cheaper for the guests. . The hotels and private property owners, on the other hand, won’t have to pay considerable shares of their proceeds to centralized services like Booking.com or Airbnb, thus again making their rooms and premises more available to potential guests.. The marketplace, which is already available in alpha, will also feature an app and a browser version for end users. . The transactions on the platform are executed in LOC tokens, which have already been added to several cryptocurrency exchanges, including HitBTC, Mercatox, and Etherdelta.. Aside from that, LockChain has garnered support from certain prominent public figures like Rosen Plevneliev, the former president of Bulgaria who joined the company’s advisory board.. The official announcement reads:. "Through strategic partnership deals that were made, we’ve secured hotel inventory that is close to 100,000 hotels with some of the most reputable accommodation suppliers in the world. The inventory has global coverage. The prices of the hotels are extremely competitive. We’ve conducted a comparative analysis between 21 properties and the result was an average of -17% -18% pricing when compared with the most established OTA.". The announcement comes after a successful token sale in November 2017, through which LockChain raised 10,500 ETH with the total supply of 18.5m LOC tokens.. What do you think of the LockChain platform? How will it impact current hotel/accommodations booking services like Airbnb and Booking.com? Let us know in the comments below..

Decentralized Storage Explained - https://blockgeeks.com/ In this lesson we’ll learn about decentralized storage and some services that are available today like IPFS and Swarm. You can think of decentralized storage as a peer-to-peer network where members pool together their disk space to create a shared global memory, kind of like Dropbox but decentralized. Both IPFS and Swarm are similar in that they are opensource decentralized storage solutions, but they differ in implementation and approach. IPFS, which stands for interplanetary file system, is a protocol that was published by an organization called Protocol Labs. The first implementation of the IPFS protocol was written in the Go language and published in early 2015, and today there are several alpha release implementations available including in javascript. Swarm is also a protocol, and is part of the Ethereum holy trinity that makes up the serverless world computer, which consists of Swarm, Ethereum and Whisper. These three infrastructure projects are part of a broader vision that provides a completely decentralized alternative to the currently centralized web. Ethereum would provide the computation power; Swarm would provide the storage layer; And Whisper would provide a messaging layer. Swarm and Whisper are not quite as far along in their roadmaps as Ethereum. But a proof-of-concept Swarm implementation written in the Go language is included as part of the geth client since version 1.5 You may have noticed I said that both projects are either in alpha or proof-of-concept stages, meaning theyre not quite yet ready for the production spotlight. But understanding the role of decentralized storage in the future web is important, so you should know how to make use of these tools. As these projects evolve and mature, they will become increasingly production ready. Let’s start by looking at how to use Swarm. Since Swarm is already part of the Ethereum stack, a proof-of-concept Go language implementation exists as part of geth. So to activate swarm, we need to download and build geth and swarm from source. To do this, we need to have Git and Go installed in our environment. You can do this easily using the command brew install go git. Then you need to make sure your Go environment is setup correctly. You can do this by creating a folder called go in your home folder, and then exporting an environment variable called $GOPATH which points to this folder. We’ll then install from source by downloading the go-ethereum source code from their github mkdir -p $GOPATH/src/github.com/ethereum cd $GOPATH/src/github.com/ethereum git clone https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum cd go-ethereum git checkout master go get github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum And now we can compile geth and swarm from source: go install -v ./cmd/geth go install -v ./cmd/swarm We’re now ready to run the swarm daemon by using the binary in our $GOPATH. You can add this bin folder to your PATH for convenience. If you run swarm version, we can see that we are on version 1.8. To use Swarm, you need to have an Ethereum account. You can do this quickly using geth account new. After entering a password, this will print out the new account address that we will use to join the Swarm network. You can copy the public address to your clipboard. To run Swarm we first need to make sure we have geth running. Then in a separate tab we run swarm and point it to our Ethereum account using the —bzzaccount option and pasting in our public address. It will prompt for your password to unlock the keyfile for Swarm, and then start up a local Swarm node on port 8500. Now we can easily upload files using swarm command line tools by simply calling swarm up followed by the path of the file you want to upload. Swarm doesn’t support encryption yet, so make sure you dont upload any sensitive files. After uploading, you’ll get a unique hash printed out for this file that points to it on the Swarm network. Let’s upload our index.html from our previous blockchain explorer example. To read more check out https://blockgeeks.com/

Virtual Futures presents tech-visionary Vinay Gupta to dicuss cryptocurrencies and the uptake of the blockchain in all its applications. This event is organised in partnership with the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick as part of their 360 Lecture Series. Blockchain, also known as distributed ledger technology, has attracted a great deal of attention due to the hype surrounding cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Whilst blockchain technology might be able to drive economic change globally, the applications are innumerable. Among others, the implications include empowering impoverished individuals by bypassing banks for payments, generating personalized identities for voting, securing healthcare data, improving supply chain logistics, and allowing business to be carried out transparently. Vinay will share his thoughts on how a technology that permits secure and transparent solutions might transform the next decade. Vinay Gupta is a leading figure in the blockchain space. He is the co-founder of Mattereum, co-ordinated the release of the blockchain platform Ethereum in July 2015, and was strategic architect for ConsenSys, a technology hub focusing on the Ethereum blockchain and related applications. He was the designer of the National Blockchain Strategy for Dubai and is a partner at Hexayurt Capital, the technology-focused VC firm behind the Internet of Agreements. He has been involved in commercial software development since 1992 and his experience as a programmer and visionary has covered fields as diverse as medical imaging, flight simulation, computer graphics, cryptographic applications and the web. Talks at Google in London were delighted to welcome Alex Tapscott to talk about his book Blockchain Revolution, looking at how the technology behind Bitcoin can reshape the world of business and transform the old order of human affairs for the better. Alex can be found on Twitter at: @alextapscott Book on Google Play - with free first chapter! https://play.google.com/store/books/details/Don_Tapscott_Blockchain_Revolution?id=bwz_CwAAQBAJ About the Book: The technology likely to have the greatest impact on the future of the world economy has arrived, and it's not self-driving cars, solar energy, or artificial intelligence. It’s called the blockchain. The first generation of the digital revolution brought us the Internet of information. The second generation powered by blockchain technology is bringing us the Internet of value: a new, distributed platform that can help us reshape the world of business and transform the old order of human affairs for the better. Blockchain is the ingeniously simple, revolutionary protocol that allows transactions to be simultaneously anonymous and secure by maintaining a tamperproof public ledger of value. Though it's the technology that drives bitcoin and other digital currencies, the underlying framework has the potential to go far beyond these and record virtually everything of value to humankind, from birth and death certificates to insurance claims and even votes. Why should you care? Maybe you're a music lover who wants artists to make a living off their art. And those examples are barely the tip of the iceberg. This technology is public, encrypted, and readily available for anyone to use. It's already seeing widespread adoption in a number of areas. For example, forty-two (and counting) of the world's biggest financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Credit Suisse, have formed a consortium to investigate the blockchain for speedier and more secure transactions. As with major paradigm shifts that preceded it, the blockchain will create winners and losers. And while opportunities abound, the risks of disruption and dislocation must not be ignored. About the Author: Alex Tapscott is the CEO and Founder of Northwest Passage Ventures, an advisory firm building industry-leading blockchain businesses. Formerly, Alex was a senior executive at Canaccord Genuity, Canada’s largest independent investment bank. At age 25, he became the firm’s youngest-ever Vice President and in 2014, he founded the firm’s blockchain practice. Over his career, Alex has worked tirelessly for his clients, raising hundreds of millions of dollars in growth capital from a global institutional investor base, and provided sound advice and counsel.

Ethereum Blue has stayed solid through a sea of red. Still a very low market cap with room to grow. At the very least the utility in this service is in high demand in the Crypocurrency space.
